Reviewed against MYVISA, MDEC, EMGS, and Malaysian mission guidance on 5 September 2026

Malaysia visa photo requirements35 ร— 50 mm eVISA, but 35 ร— 45 mm for students

The social eVISA and EMGS student routes publish different dimensions. Both demand a professionally captured white-background image and restrict digital editing, so choose the application route before preparing a file.

Requirements-only route. PassPhoto does not alter Malaysia visa photos.

MYVISA social eVISA

35 ร— 50 mm

Studio image on a pure white background.

EMGS student route

35 ร— 45 mm

A distinct official immigration workflow.

Normal paper route

Local mission controls

35 ร— 50 mm is common; quantity varies.

Malaysia alteration note

The official MYVISA FAQ requires an image taken in a studio and rejects selfies and scanned images. Its detailed PDF says the background "must NOT be cropped out with photo editing tool" and rejects digitally modified images. MDEC also says eVISA/MyVisa photographs must not be digitally altered or enhanced using filters. PassPhoto keeps Malaysia requirements-only: it does not upload, crop, resize, retouch, replace the background, store, submit, or prepare Malaysia visa photos.

Social eVISA baseline

What the current MYVISA FAQ requires

These points apply to the social eVISA image described by the official portal. Visa with Reference, student, work, and paper routes can use different intake rules.

The current MYVISA social eVISA FAQ publishes this physical proportion.

Background

Pure white

Plain, clear, and free from shadows.

Capture method

Studio-taken

The current portal says scanned images and selfies are strictly not permitted.

Recency

Within six months

The image must show your current appearance.

Framing

Full face, chin to crown

Face and body forward, head centred, shoulders included, and no border.

Route comparison

Do not reuse one crop for every Malaysia visa

Official MYVISA FAQ

EMGS student route

35 ร— 45 mm, not 35 ร— 50

The official student service requires a professional studio image that is not trimmed from a larger image, digitally altered, enhanced, or self-taken.

Official EMGS guidance

Normal paper visa

Mission-specific quantity

Ottawa currently lists one white-background 35 ร— 50 mm image. Manila lists two 35 ร— 50 mm images for employment and student categories.

Official Ottawa checklist

No Malaysia background replacement route

The reviewed official sources require studio or professional capture, original photo quality, white-background control, and no digitally altered, enhanced, or editing-tool background changes. They do not provide safe permission to create one edited Malaysia output for every applicant, so this page stays requirements-only.

Public result conflicts

Do not treat generic Malaysia makers as route instructions

Reviewed public results on 5 September 2026 still advertise 35 x 50 mm one-click makers, auto face crop, white-background replacement, phone-photo or selfie input, 413 x 591 pixel conversions, portal-ready downloads, compliance checks, and acceptance-style refund wording. Current official route evidence instead points to studio-taken social eVISA photos, EMGS professional-photo and no-edit instructions, MDEC digital-alteration restrictions, and local mission checklist control.

Malaysia visa photo FAQ

Direct answers for each application route

What size is a Malaysia eVISA photo?

The current official MYVISA FAQ for a social eVISA specifies 35 x 50 mm. It must be a recent studio-taken image with a plain white background. This does not mean every Malaysia visa route uses the same size.

Why does the Malaysia student visa use 35 x 45 mm?

Education Malaysia Global Services publishes a separate 35 x 45 mm requirement for its student route. That image is used in the immigration process and on the student identity card, so the MYVISA social eVISA 35 x 50 mm preset should not be substituted.

What is the Malaysia visa photo size in pixels?

MYVISA publishes a physical 35 x 50 mm size but does not state one universal pixel box or file-size range in the public photo FAQ reviewed here. Use digital dimensions or file limits only when the official filing portal publishes them.

Can I use a selfie for a Malaysia eVISA?

No. The current MYVISA FAQ says scanned and selfie photos are strictly not permitted and requires a studio-taken image. A photo taken by somebody else at home is still not described as an accepted substitute.

Can PassPhoto replace the background?

No for this reviewed route set. Official MYVISA guidance says the background must not be removed with a photo-editing tool, MDEC says photos must not be digitally altered or enhanced with filters, and EMGS says student-route photos must not be digitally altered. PassPhoto keeps Malaysia requirements-only and does not upload, crop, resize, retouch, replace the background, or prepare an edited output.

Can I wear glasses?

The MYVISA FAQ PDF says glasses must not create glare or shadows. Some Malaysian mission and student-route instructions are stricter, so follow the exact route rather than assuming glasses are always accepted.

How many printed photos are required?

A social eVISA is uploaded online and does not normally require physical documents unless requested. Paper routes vary: Ottawa lists one 35 x 50 mm image, while Manila lists two for several visa categories. Use your local mission checklist.

Does PassPhoto print or submit Malaysia visa photos?

No. PassPhoto provides requirements guidance and a local ratio check only. You arrange any required studio capture, printing, portal upload, or mission submission through MYVISA, EMGS, or the Malaysian mission responsible for your application.
