The official visitor sources do not publish a universal online pixel size, background colour, or head-height rule. You can continue with background replacement, but confirm any extra instructions from the office receiving your application.

The visit/transit page and guidebook require a recent applicant photo. The paper form adds an acceptable size range, while GovHK publishes the online formats, one-file count, colour requirement, and 5 MB ceiling.

What size is a Hong Kong visit visa photo?
For the paper ID 1003A application, the official form says the image must not be larger than 45 x 55 mm and not smaller than 40 x 50 mm. A 40 x 50 mm print is therefore inside the official range. The online visitor service does not publish one mandatory millimetre or pixel size.
What is the Hong Kong eVisa photo size in pixels?
The official online visit/transit service requires one recent colour photo but does not publish one pixel dimension. It accepts JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG, or TIF files up to 5 MB each. Use a pixel dimension only if the official filing portal asks for one.
Does the online application require a photo?
