Pixel dimensions

The official service does not publish one pixel dimension.
PassPhoto uses a 40 Γ 50 mm white-background preset because it sits inside the official paper range. The official visitor sources do not publish a universal online pixel size, background colour, or head-height rule. You can continue with background replacement, but confirm any extra instructions from the office receiving your application.
Official visitor rules
The visit/transit page and guidebook require a recent applicant photo. The paper form adds an acceptable size range, while GovHK publishes the online formats, one-file count, colour requirement, and 5 MB ceiling.

Official online instructionsPaper ID 1003A
The box on page one says the image must be at least 40 Γ 50 mm and no larger than 45 Γ 55 mm. A 40 Γ 50 mm print fits the stated range.
Official form pagePostal or overseas route
Immigration guidance says a fax may start the process, but the original completed form and required photograph must then be sent. Overseas offices can have their own handling arrangements.
Official submission guidanceThe official visitor sources reviewed here do not prohibit background replacement. PassPhoto can create a white background and crop to the common 40 Γ 50 mm format. It never changes skin, hair, facial geometry, expression, clothing, or identity. Confirm your receiving office's instructions before using the edited file.
Continue to the route-aware makerFor the paper ID 1003A application, the official form says the image must not be larger than 45 x 55 mm and not smaller than 40 x 50 mm. A 40 x 50 mm print is therefore inside the official range. The online visitor service does not publish one mandatory millimetre or pixel size.
The official online visit/transit service requires one recent colour photo but does not publish one pixel dimension. It accepts JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG, or TIF files up to 5 MB each. Use a pixel dimension only if the official filing portal asks for one.
