Mexico visa photo requirements

Electronic and consular visa routes use different photo rules

Mexico's current electronic visa uses a digital file for eligible applicants, while consular applications generally use a physical colour photo. Published sizes and file limits differ by route and office, so there is no safe nationwide 35 × 45 mm answer.

Do not assume 35 × 45 mm or 413 × 531 pixels. Those are common private presets, but federal and current mission sources publish several physical sizes. The electronic-visa route uses file type and byte limits instead of one millimetre size.

Operational in 2026 for Brazil

Electronic visa

The current Brazil route requires a digital face photo without glasses on white, saved as JPG, JPEG, or PNG and under 1.5 MB. It is for eligible Brazilian nationals travelling by air and does not replace the consular route.

Embassy or consulate route

Consular visa

The applicant presents a recent colour photo with the visa form. The responsible Mexican office controls its physical dimensions, recency, paper, and appointment process. A generic preset cannot replace that instruction.

Appearance checklist

Keep the submitted image natural and unedited

Use a recent colour image that still reflects your current appearance.

Face the camera directly with the full face visible and uncovered.

Remove eyeglasses and any accessory that obscures the face.

Use a plain white background with even lighting and no shadows.

Keep natural skin colour, sharp focus, and a neutral appearance.

Do not digitally manipulate, retouch, or rebuild the image.

Mexico alteration note

The Mexican Embassy in the Netherlands says no digital manipulation and names Photoshop as an example. Because official route guidance expressly restricts image editing. PassPhoto can still replace the background and prepare the crop, but the result may be rejected under that rule. Check your filing office before using it.

Printing and submission are your responsibility

PassPhoto does not print or submit photos. Follow the electronic portal or arrange the physical size and paper requested by the Mexican office receiving your application.

FAQ

Mexico visa photo questions

What size is a Mexico visa photo?

There is no single size used by every Mexican consular office. The federal visa guidelines publish a range from 32 x 26 mm to 39 x 31 mm in the order shown by the rule. Current mission examples also publish 35 x 45 mm in the Netherlands and 30 x 40 mm in Japan. Use the exact office handling your application.

Is 35 x 45 mm the official Mexico visa photo size?

It is an official local size in some places, including the Mexican Embassy in the Netherlands, but it is not a universal national answer. Other official offices publish different dimensions or only say identity-size photo.

Does Mexico have an electronic visa photo requirement?

Yes, for eligible electronic-visa applicants. The official Mexican visa portal says the operational electronic visa is available only to Brazilian nationals in 2026. The Brazil route requires a white-background digital face photo without glasses in JPG, JPEG, or PNG format and under 1.5 MB.

Why do some electronic-visa pages say 2 to 5 MB?

Mexican consular pages also publish a generic electronic-visa framework with a 2 to 5 MB file range. The current Brazil implementation instead says under 1.5 MB. The live portal and nationality-specific instruction must control; PassPhoto does not treat either value as universal.

Can PassPhoto replace a Mexico visa photo background with AI?

PassPhoto can replace the background, but official Mexican Embassy guidance in the Netherlands prohibits digital manipulation and names Photoshop as an example. The maker displays this note before processing; check your route before using the edited file.

Can I wear glasses?

The federal guideline and the official electronic-visa instructions require the face without glasses. The photo should be front-facing and use a white background.

Is 413 x 531 pixels an official Mexico visa rule?

No universal official pixel size was found. Mexican government and consular sources publish physical dimensions or route-specific file rules instead. Use a pixel size only when the official portal or receiving office publishes it.

Does PassPhoto print or submit Mexico visa photos?

No. PassPhoto explains the official route differences. You arrange any required physical print and complete the electronic or consular submission yourself.
