Regular visa size
35 × 45 mm
The central MFA guidance lists one photo measuring 3.5 × 4.5 cm.
Reviewed against Russian MFA and consular guidance on 17 July 2026
A regular Russian visa uses one 35 × 45 mm photo. The unified e-visa instead asks for a JPEG in the 35:45 portrait ratio with the face covering 70–80% of the image.
Background and crop only. PassPhoto never changes facial features or identity.
Regular visa
One 35 × 45 mm photo
Printed and attached as the receiving office directs.
Unified e-visa
JPEG, 35:45 ratio
No universal pixel or KB value is published.
E-visa framing

Use the 35 × 45 mm output for a regular consular application. For the unified e-visa, use the same 35:45 shape as a JPEG and follow any additional validation shown after signing in. The public MFA instructions do not publish one pixel or file-size limit.
Official requirements
The central MFA rule establishes the regular-visa size. The e-visa portal adds detailed digital composition requirements, while local missions may specify colour, paper, and copy handling.

Central guidance accepts colour or black-and-white. Local mission pages commonly require colour, a plain light background, full-face view, and a photo no older than six months, printed on good photo paper.

Show only the applicant, straight-on, with natural colour, even lighting, no shadows or frame, and 70–80% face coverage. The signed-in application may perform additional file validation.
Official unified e-visa instructionsThe official visa and e-visa sources reviewed here do not explicitly prohibit background replacement. PassPhoto creates a plain light background and the selected crop without changing skin, hair, facial geometry, expression, clothing, or identity.
Make a Russia visa photoFor a regular visa filed through a Russian consulate, the central Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance requires one 35 x 45 mm photo. Some local missions add colour, paper, recency, and background details, so follow the office receiving your application.
Upload a JPEG showing only you, taken within six months, in full-face view against a plain light background. The official portal requires a rectangular 35:45 aspect ratio, 70-80 percent face coverage, neutral expression, closed mouth, visible eyes, even light, no frame, and natural colour.
The current public MFA instructions reviewed here do not publish one pixel dimension or file-size ceiling. They specify JPEG, a 35:45 aspect ratio, clear focus, and 70-80 percent face coverage. Follow any additional validation shown inside the signed-in application form.
The central MFA visa page accepts black-and-white or colour. However, several Russian missions explicitly ask for colour, so PassPhoto prepares a colour result to meet the stricter common instruction.
The e-visa instructions allow clear glasses only when the eyes remain visible and there is no lens reflection or tint. A religious head covering is allowed when it does not conceal facial features. Regular-visa rules also provide a religious or national exception for head coverings.
